Haaland shows no sign of slowing down under Maresca Manchester City had to cling on at the end, but a brace from Erling Haaland – taking his season tally to eight already - was enough to maintain the league leaders' 100 per cent start to the season. Haaland was emphatic once again, denied a hat-trick only by a marginal offside call, and although that is par for the course, we have quickly learned that he will be just as lethal – and equally as important – under Enzo Maresca as he was for Pep Guardiola. Haaland has now netted 100 non-penalty goals in the Premier League, reaching this milestone in fewer appearances than any other player (139). It leaves Man City with seven wins from seven, which is the third-longest winning streak ever at the start of a Premier League season, behind Chelsea in 2005/06 (nine) and Liverpool in 2019/20 (eight). They are now six points ahead of Arsenal, who visit Nottingham Forest on Sunday. However, there might be some concern about the number of goals City’s defence is leaking. Another two here at the Etihad Stadium against Ipswich Town made it nine in their last four matches in all competitions. Ipswich, meanwhile, are proving that goals will not be a problem this time around. In 2024/25 they scored just 36 goals (0.9 per game) on their way to relegation. So far under Gary O’Neil they have netted 11 times, or 1.6 times per match, including twice against Arsenal, Manchester United and now Man City.

Only Erling Haaland has been involved in more goals among Premier League players across all comps than Manzambi, since his first start Villa. 🌟 #AVFC

Enzo Maresca: "For sure I didn't expect to win seven games from seven [in the Premier League]. But the main reason is because I'm not thinking, 'OK we can win the next five'. I'm always [just] thinking about the next one. So I didn't expect to win seven out of seven, but I think we are working well, working good, and this is for me the main thing, the most important thing..."

Brentford 1 Liverpool 2. A win that moves #LFC fifth against nine-man Brentford. A wild game that came to life midway through the first half. First, a Liverpool penalty was overturned after replays showed Dango Outtarra won the ball and hadn't fouled Alexis Mac Allister in the box. Then on 44 minutes, Keane Lewis-Potter scored a bullet header from Igor Thiago's cross, and it looked like Brentford would go in at half-time on a high. Yet two-minutes into first-half stoppage time, and Yehor Yarmoliuk was needlessly sent off for a headbutt on Jeremy Jacquet. The only saving grace for Brentford, it came before a Liverpool corner was in play, so no penalty was given. Liverpool made a series of changes after the break, including Rio Ngumoha replacing injured sub Jeremy Frimpong. That was enforced, but it seemed to help Liverpool get going. And on 62 minutes, the visitors finally found a breakthrough as Florian Wirtz fed Victor Munoz down the right, who finished low into the left corner. And on 70 minutes Alexander Isak latched onto Bradley Barcola's cushioned header in the box and finished brilliantly taking a touch with his right before finding the net with his left. Isak now has five Premier League goals. Brentford tried to push numbers forward at the end, but Vitaly Janelt was sent off for a second yellow forcing them to finish with nine men. It's the hosts first loss of the season.🐝🔴

FT: Everton 0-2 Chelsea Pedro Neto scores his first Premier League brace as Chelsea win 2-0 at Everton. It's also the Blues first clean sheet in 23 matches but concerns about Emiliano Martinez as he is stretched off and Mike Penders makes his league debut. https://t.co/c2owxgVR5Z
