🚨 DeepSeek just raised about $15 billion, double what it set out to get, to take on OpenAI and Anthropic. The Chinese AI lab has raised about 100 billion yuan, roughly $15 billion, in one of the largest private funding rounds China has ever seen, according to people familiar with the matter. Battery maker CATL and WeChat owner Tencent are among the biggest contributors, and Reuters confirmed their participation with its own sources. The round started with a target of 50 billion yuan and ended up at about double that, as state-backed funds and corporate investors competed for stakes. Earlier reporting put the valuation DeepSeek was seeking at about 500 billion yuan, around $75 billion, and Reuters reported in September that the company hired CITIC Securities to prepare a possible listing on Shanghai's STAR Market.
